Women’s enamel dial creations with a beautiful, feminine tenderness

The Seiko Presage collection was created by Seiko based on Presage’s brand philosophy of “Japanese Beauty, crafted into a mechanical timepiece.” A women’s creation of the enamel dial Craftsmanship Series, which garnered a good reputation as a series of watches for men, was launched in December 2021.

Enamel, which is said to have a color that does not fade even after many years, is made by applying a coat of a glass-based glaze to a metal surface. Although it is attractive for its distinctive gentle sheen, it is hardly ever used to make dials for wristwatches in the modern day because of how difficult the process of manufacturing is.
The fact that Seiko continues to manufacture enamel dials is nothing less than a gift of Japanese craftsmanship. Mitsuru Yokosawa, who is the only enamel craftsman in Japan with the ability to apply an even coat of glaze on a small dial and fire it, makes each and every dial by hand.

The first thing that the designer decided upon development of the women’s series was the colors of the enamel. One is a white color with a gentle sheen. The other is a newly designed subtle cherry blossom pink color that combines a feminine tenderness with Japanese beauty. She shares her intention, “I was inspired by cherry blossoms in full bloom during the spring. I want people to feel warm inside and energized every time they look at the watch.” In terms of the moon-themed limited edition, the dial has a deep blue color that evokes the night sky. Yokosawa utilized his master techniques to overcome the difficulty of adjusting the temperature during firing to accomplish a captivating deep blue dial.

Furthermore, the women’s creations set themselves apart for their elegance, as captured in the soft flowing lines of the case and the diamond set in the crown. The Roman numerals on the dial have an exquisite design that spreads slightly outward, demonstrating how feminine touches have been applied to every detail of the design.

These models gracefully weave Japanese craftsmanship and a design for modern women into a mechanical timepiece with a feeling of warmth. More masterpieces that will long be loved have been added to the Seiko Presage collection of wristwatches.
