Edo Tokyo Kirari Project: Encountering Tokyo’s Time-Honored Brands at Wakeijuku

From Friday, March 7 to Sunday, March 9, 2025, the Edo Tokyo Kirari Project will host the EDO TOKYO TIMELESS Exhibition: Encountering Tokyo’s Time-Honored Brands at Wakeijuku. The exhibition will take place at the Wakeijuku Honkan, a historic residence in Bunkyo City, Tokyo formerly belonging to the family of the Marquis Hosokawa.

The exhibition is a reexamination of Tokyo’s finest long-established brands, master craftsmanship, and food culture through the lens of “timeless” value. Within the rich historical setting of Wakeijuku, visitors can experience how these brands have evolved over generations while preserving their traditions, seamlessly integrating into contemporary lifestyles.

The Wakeijuku Honkan venue is a designated Tokyo Tangible Cultural Property (structure). Although access to the premises is usually restricted except for one or two public openings per month, for these three days only the site will be opened up to the public.

Visitors will be able to explore the Wakeijuku Honkan while viewing exhibitions from 39 Edo Tokyo Kirari Project participating companies, learning about their deep-rooted heritage and ongoing innovations. Alongside displays of traditional craftsmanship, the exhibition will introduce new initiatives, including collaborations with designers from the Bureau du Design, de la Mode et des Métiers d’Art (BDMMA), a Paris-based design industry incubator operated by Tokyo’s friendship city, Paris. Additionally, interactive workshops offering firsthand experiences of Edo Tokyo craftsmanship will be available (reservation required). Some works and related products can be purchased at the venue. Why not take this rare opportunity to experience the time-honored traditions of Tokyo, beloved across generations?
