[Seiko Watch] A classic wristwatch incorporating traditional crafts of enamel and lacquer, adding a touch of color to each individual’s time

Traditional Japanese craftsmanship and classic mechanical watches. Harmonizing the different values of each, we bring out their unique beauty. Seiko Watch, a long-established watch manufacturer in Ginza, Tokyo, has created the Seiko Presage craftsmanship series, a brand that sheds light on traditional crafts from all over Japan and transmits Japanese aesthetics to the world through mechanical wristwatches, while continuing a watch-making tradition of over 100 years.

The Craftsmanship series is a made-in-Japan model, combining a classic atmosphere unique to mechanical watches and dials) with techniques from traditional Japanese industries. We have so far developed models that incorporate techniques such as enamel, lacquer, and Arita-yaki porcelain.

This fall, a new regular model with more refined enamel and lacquerdials, inspired by traditional Japanese crafts, has been introduced. The layout of the dials, case, and bracelet has been newly redesigned, in order to showcase these inspirations at their best.

Aiming for longevity, an orthodox dial layout has been used. The metal three-dimensional indexes accentuate the profound beauty ofthe enamel and lacquer, creating an impressive face with heightened contrast.

With its warm white color and unique soft texture, the enamel model is enhanced by the use of blue hands and gray indexes. Crafting the enamel dial required a high level of skill, such as adjusting the ratio of glaze components according to the temperature and humidity of the day. They were carefully hand-fired one by one under the supervision of Mitsuru Yokozawa, one of the leading enamel craftsmen in Japan.These dials promise to retain their deep lustre, unique to enamel, no matter how much time passes.

Created by lacquer craftsman Isshu Tamura, the lacquer model uses an innovative yet traditional manufacturing technique that directly combines metal and lacquer to create a smooth surface. The lacquer is applied and polished by hand dozens of times by numerous craftsmen, bringing out the lustrous black color that only lacquer can produce. The deep and beautiful jet-black dial is accented with white hour and minute hands and indexes, and a gold second hand.
