[Seiko] Seiko Presage Releases Limited-Edition Model Featuring Unglazed Arita Porcelain with Elegant Matte Finish

On July 11, 2025, Seiko—a company with over a century of watchmaking history—launched the limited-edition Classic Series “Craftsmanship” Unglazed Arita Porcelain Dial Limited Edition model from its Seiko Presage collection. Limited to 1,200 pieces worldwide, this new release is one of its “Craftsmanship” models, which celebrate traditional Japanese aesthetics through mechanical timepieces and are known for incorporating artisanal techniques from across Japan.

Seiko Presage has previously featured dials showcasing the sophisticated artistry ofurushilacquer, enamel, Arita porcelain, andshippocloisonné. This latest creation introduces a new approach to Arita porcelain, using an unglazed dial that highlights its natural matte texture and warmth. Overseen by master ceramicist Hiroyuki Hashiguchi of Shingama, a historic Arita ware kiln in Saga Prefecture, the dial was produced through a meticulous process led by kiln specialist Toshiaki Kawaguchi and his team. The porcelain is poured into a precisely engineered plaster mold and fired at 1,300℃—a process that involves numerous intricate, high-difficulty steps to achieve the final result.

The unglazed finish is also emphasized in the dial’s design. A modern interpretation of the traditionalhishi(diamond-shaped) motif—considered auspicious for symbolizing wishes for prosperity and good health—is embossed on the dial. The sharp relief created by the unglazed porcelain emphasizes the ridge lines, casting deep shadows and giving the pattern a refined three-dimensional quality.

Extremely rare even on a global scale, this unglazed porcelain dial model is limited to just 1,200 pieces worldwide, of which only 300 will be sold in Japan. Don’t miss the chance to experience this fresh expression of Arita porcelain’s enduring appeal.
