Headquartered in Nihonbashi, Tokyo, EITARO Sohonpo is a producer and seller of Japanese confections. The EITARO Sohonpo Founding Festival is held every year on April 29 at the Nihonbashi E-Chaya cafe inside the Nihonbashi main shop. This year, for about one month from April 4, the company will mark its 204th anniversary with the sale of products developed in collaboration with other companies that operate shops in Nihonbashi.

The beverage menu will feature a Mitsuame Aruheito drink that draws on candy-making skills, and Uji Matcha Latte made with Uji matcha tea from venerable Japanese tea shop Yamamotoyama. The flavor of matcha and the gentle sweetness of aruheito toffee stand out in milk from the Konsen region of Hokkaido.

The food menu features unexpected combinations, including Katsubushi Soft Ice Cream topped with Mitsuame Aruheito toffee and fluffy thread-cut bonito flakes from three-centuries-old bonito specialty shop Ninben, and Nihonbashi Black Toast made with Yamagata bread from Maison Kayser (a boulangerie with shops in 20 countries), spread as you like with EITARO Sohonpo’s bean paste and sweet-and-sour Murokichi nori boiled in soy sauce (accented with Mitsuame Aruheito toffee!) from venerable nori shop YAMAMOTO-NORITEN.

Also enjoy the popular, freshly baked Nihonbashi Mochi at a demonstration section, available during the Founding Festival only. Nihonbashi Mochi brings together dashi stock and dried bonito flakes from Ninben, nori from YAMAMOTO-NORITEN, and Mangetsu mochi (rice cake) from EITARO Sohonpo. This hot, freshly-made treat, made from freshly-grilled nori wrapped around mochi lightly grilled on a copper plate by artisans, is a Japanese confection that is a treat for the eye as well.
