LIFEWhy not have some fun drawing a Mon while you’re at home?
Focusing on family crests (Kamon), Shoryu Hatoba and Yohji Hatoba ofKyogenare active in various fields beyond logo design.
We are delighted to announce that “UWAEMON”, which we’ve been posting on Kyogen’s official Youtube page, has been published as a book. “UWAEMON” is a playful way to draw Mon (crests) at home and was created by Seiryu Hatoba, who is an inheritor of the technique called “Monsho-uwaeshi”, which is used to draw Mon on kimono.
The book contains simplified writing instructions to make drawing Mon easy and fun for everyone. It also offers brief explanations and stories about the different motifs. The book contains a total of 20 Mon, including famous Kamon such as the “Tokugawa Hollyhock”, the well-known medicine case of Mitokoumon; Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s “Goshichi no Kiri”; and Oda Nobunaga’s “Oda Mokkou”, as well as the lovely “Plover” and the special “Korin Crane” and “Korin Tortoise”. If you make copies of the separate drawing pages, you can use them in many ways, such as for drawing with other people, or just having fun with your family.
“I want people to enjoy not only the beautiful designs of Kamon, but also the wonder of creating shapes using only circles and lines”, said Hatoba.
Experience the world of Mon while watching them steadily appear on paper!
