This summer, festivals have been held around the country for the first time in several years. Miyamoto Unosuke Shoten has been manufacturing the Mikoshi (portable shrines) and taiko drums that are a vital part of festivals since its founding in 1861.
In recent years it has been attracting attention around the world with its hosting of concerts featuring Japanese musical instruments.

On the holiday of Friday, September 23, the “Miyamoto Unosuke Shoten 160th Anniversary Iyasaka Project – Waraku Soden*” will be held at Asakusa Public Hall (Taito-ku). The Iyasaka Project – Waraku Soden is an ensemble performance by up-and-coming Japanese instumentalists. The sounds of instruments of gagaku (Japanese court music), koto, Tsugaru shamisen, shinobue flutes, taiko drums and Amami folk songs will be presented by these unique performers.
We hope you will take this opportunity to enjoy the sounds of this ensemble of Japanese musical instruments.

*Waraku Soden is a part of the Iyasaka Project, which aims to help in the learning, handing down and expansion of the true meaning of traditional Japanese festivals and performing arts, based around the theme of “Japanese music accepting and harmonizing with difference.” This group deconstructs Japanese music developments such as gagaku instruments, koto, shamisen, shinobue flutes, taiko drums and folk songs, etc., and then reconstructs them to create a uniquely contemporary Japanese musical performance.
